SME Breakfast at the Chamber – 7 March 2017

As part of our monthly SME Breakfast series, we were honoured to welcome Yul Bahat of Securitude Cyber Solutions as we discussed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect in May 2018.

According to Mr Bahat, the new regulation will affect businesses of all sizes, including SMEs, by imposing strict sanctions on businesses which fail to take adequate cyber security precautions to protect personal information about European persons. These sanctions include fines of up to 20 000 000€.
Mr Bahat highlighted a number of attack prevention measures which could be put in place, including minimising the amount of personal data collected and retained, encryption, data anonymization and privileged user access control, as well as data centralisation measures and methods for monitoring and protecting personal information. Mr Yul also stressed the importance of notifying the relevant authorities immediately (within 72 hours) following a cyber security breach. It was a very interesting and informative presentation, which was very well received by our business audience.
